Regular Season Round 13: Calvia - Esparreguera 98-68

There was a minor upset when 10th ranked Esparreguera (4-8) was smashed on the road by thirteenth ranked Calvia (3-9) 98-68 on Saturday. Calvia outrebounded Esparreguera 39-27 including 30 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Esparreguera was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a very good performance for center Antoni Vicens (204-90) who helped to win the game recording 40 points (!!!), 8 rebounds and 4 assists (on 16-of-18 shooting from the field). Uruguayan point guard Franco Villalba (177-0) contributed with 9 points and 9 assists for the winners. Forward Ruben Morales (193-85) answered with 15 points (made all of his seven free throws) and Sudanese center Deng Mayot (218-97) added 10 points in the effort for Esparreguera. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Calvia maintains thirteenth place in Group C-A with 3-9 record. Esparreguera lost their third game in a row. They dropped to the eleventh position with eight games lost. Calvia will face higher ranked Quart (#5) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
