Regular Season Round 13: Giessen - Fellbach 93-90

There was a surprise result when tenth ranked Giessen Pointers (6-7) edged at home 4th placed Fellbach (7-6) 93-90 on Saturday. Giessen Pointers made 23-of-26 free shots (88.5 percent) during the game. Strangely Fellbach outrebounded Giessen Pointers 42-20 including a 27-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Point guard Lucas Mayer (183-99) fired 20 points, 8 assists and 4 steals for the winners. Croatian forward Ivan Furlan (203-96, college: Academy of Art) chipped in 21 points and 5 rebounds. Giessen Pointers' coach Daniel Doerr used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. American center Scooter Gillette (206-90, college: Fair Dickinson) produced a double-double by scoring 30 points and 14 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) and James Arbinger (191-87) added 22 points and 11 rebounds respectively for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Giessen Pointers moved-up to seventh place in South-West, which they share with Langen and Kaiserslautern. Loser Fellbach dropped to the fifth position with six games lost. Giessen Pointers will face Tuebingen II (#14) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Fellbach will play against Kronberg (#12) and hope to win that game.
