Regular Season Round 11: Panionios - Larissa BC 74-71

A very close game took place in Athens between Panionios and Larissa BC. Ninth ranked Panionios (5-6) got a very close home victory over 12th ranked Larissa BC (3-8). Panionios managed to escape with a 3-point win 74-71 on Saturday evening. Larissa BC trailed by 16 points after 3 quarters before a 23-10 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 71-74 at the end of the game. Panionios looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. It was an exceptional evening for Jamaican power forward Samardo Samuels (206-89, college: Louisville) who led the winners and scored 19 points and 8 rebounds. Guard Dimitris Verginis (194-87, agency: Mansfield and Associates) accounted for 19 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists for the winning side. Four Panionios players scored in double figures. American guard Brandon Rush (198-85, college: Kansas) came up with 15 points and 8 rebounds and the other American import forward Darnell Harris (203-92, college: MTSU) added 6 points and 10 rebounds respectively for Larissa BC in the defeat. Panionios have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Iraklis. Newly promoted Larissa BC keeps the twelfth position with eight games lost. They share it with PAOK. Panionios will meet higher ranked Ionikos Nikaias (#6) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Larissa BC will play against AEK (#4) and hope to secure a win.
