Regular Season Round 8: Khimik - Zaporizhye 92-84

There was no surprise in Yuzhny where 8th ranked Zaporizhye (4-10) was defeated by third ranked Khimik (8-5) 92-84 on Saturday. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 26-14. But Zaporizhye won third quarter 33-14. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Khimik made 22-of-27 free shots (81.5 percent) during the game. Khimik outrebounded Zaporizhye 37-26 including a 32-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Khimik made 7 blocks. Zaporizhye was plagued by 27 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was American guard Isaiah Williams (188-95, college: Georgia St.) who scored 21 points, 5 rebounds and 9 assists. The other American import forward Lewis Sullivan (201-95, college: UAB) chipped in 20 points and 7 rebounds. Williams is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Khimik players scored in double figures. Khimik's coach Vitali Stepanovski used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. American guard Brandon Randolph (188-95, college: Utah Valley, agency: Interperformances) produced 31 points, 9 assists and 4 steals and international forward Andrii Myronenko (198-94) added 8 points and 6 rebounds respectively for the guests. Defending champion maintains third position with 8-5 record having just one point less than leader Dnipro. Loser Zaporizhye keeps the eighth place with ten games lost. Khimik will face Mykolaiv (#7) on the road in the next round. Zaporizhye will play against Cherkasy and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
