Regular Season Round 8: Ashkelon - Bnei Hertzeliya 101-90

Very important is a road loss of second ranked Bnei Hasharon (6-2) against eighth ranked Ironi Ashkelon (4-4) on Sunday night. Visiting Bnei Hasharon was defeated by Ironi Ashkelon in Ashkelon 101-90. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Bnei Hasharon. Ironi Ashkelon dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Bnei Hasharon's 34. They outrebounded Bnei Hasharon 40-26 including 28 on the defensive glass. Ironi Ashkelon players were unselfish on offense dishing 28 assists. American-Armenian forward Arizona Reid (196-86, college: High Point) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 37 points (!!!), 12 rebounds and 4 assists. Forward Alon Sapir (201-94) contributed with a double-double by scoring 14 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. American point guard Kendall Anthony (173-93, college: Richmond) replied with 19 points and 9 assists and his fellow American import forward Branden Dawson (198-93, college: Michigan St.) added 16 points and 9 rebounds in the effort for Bnei Hasharon. Five Bnei Hasharon players scored in double figures. Ironi Ashkelon moved-up to sixth place, which they share with H.Galilee and H.Haifa. Bnei Hasharon at the other side keeps the second position with two games lost. They share it with Kiryat Ata. Ironi Ashkelon will play against higher ranked Hasharon (#4) in Hod Hasharon in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Bnei Hasharon will play at home against Netanya and hopes to get back on the winning track.
