Regular Season Round 16: PAOK - Ionikos Nikaias 110-80

Bottom-ranked PAOK managed to get a fifth victory. This time they outleveled seventh-ranked Ionikos Nikaias in Thessaloniki 110-80. It's especially surprising that the victory came too easily and 30-point difference suggests that PAOK is in a good shape to leave the bottom place. The game was mostly controlled by PAOK. Ionikos Nikaias was better in fourth quarter 27-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. PAOK dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Ionikos Nikaias' 30 and made 20-of-23 charity shots (87.0 percent) during the game. PAOK players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. Americans were the main players on the court. The winners were led by forward Antwaine Wiggins (203-88, college: Charleston) who scored that evening 26 points and 6 rebounds (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field) and guard Shannon Shorter (193-89, college: N.Texas) supported him with 20 points and 5 assists. Four PAOK players scored in double figures. Even 13 points and 7 rebounds by power forward Brandon Mobley (206-91, college: Seton Hall, agency: HMS) did not help to save the game for Ionikos Nikaias. Point guard Vincent Simpson (185-88, college: Hampton, agency: Inception Sports) added 19 points for lost side. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. PAOK (5-11) moved-up to twelfth place, which they share with Aris and Kolossos HH. Ionikos Nikaias lost fourth consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the seventh position with nine games lost. They share it with Rethymno. PAOK will play against league's leader Panathinaikos in Athens in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Ionikos Nikaias will play at home against Aris (#12) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
