Date: January 24, 2020
Melilla Baloncesto (#5) was upset in Alicante by eighth ranked HLA Alicante 65-61. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of Melilla Baloncesto. HLA Alicante made 18-of-21 charity shots (85.7 percent) during the game. Strangely Melilla Baloncesto outrebounded HLA Alicante 45-24 including a 23-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was an exceptional evening for American point guard Justin Pitts (178-94, college: NW Missouri St., agency: Duran International) who led the winners and scored 29 points and 5 assists. Senegalese center Bamba Fall (217-86, college: SMU, agency: Players Group) accounted for 9 points and 9 rebounds for the winning side. German center Philipp Hartwich (218-95, college: Portland) came up with 12 points and 9 rebounds and power forward Federico Ucles (204-93, agency: Promo Sport ID) added 10 points and 8 rebounds respectively for Melilla Baloncesto in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. HLA Alicante have a solid series of four victories in a row. They moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Palencia. Melilla Baloncesto at the other side keeps the fifth position with seven games lost. They share it with Breogan. HLA Alicante will play against league's second-placed Palma in S'Arenal in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Melilla Baloncesto will play at home against the league's leader Carramimbre having rather not much hope for a victory.
