Very expected game when 12th ranked Lorient (6-15) was defeated on the road by fifth ranked Caen (13-8) 78-68 on Friday. Caen dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Lorient's 18. Caen forced 19 Lorient turnovers. The best player for the winners was swingman Florian Thibedore (194-90) who scored 18 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Forward William Pfister (203-95, college: FAU) chipped in a double-double by scoring 15 points and 10 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was naturalized Mali point guard Ibrahim Saounera (179-87) who recorded 19 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) and Lithuanian Ronaldas Rutkauskas (203-92) added 10 points and 8 rebounds respectively. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Caen maintains fifth place in Group A with 13-8 record. Lorient lost their third game in a row. They dropped to the thirteenth position with 15 games lost. Caen will face Vendee Challans (#6) on the road in the next round. Lorient will play against Vitre (#9) and hope to win that game.
