Regular Season Round 18: King - Slask 77-92
Date: January 26, 2020
We could consider it a predictable result in the game between close teams in Szczecin where eighth ranked Slask (9-9) defeated 7th ranked Wilki Morskie (9-9) 92-77. Slask dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Wilki Morskie's 34 and made 22-of-29 charity shots (75.9 percent) during the game. Slask forced 19 Wilki Morskie turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists. Wilki Morskie was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. American center Michael Humphrey (206-96, college: Stanford) notched 32 points and 9 rebounds to lead the effort and Canadian guard Devoe Joseph (193-90, college: Oregon, agency: Interperformances) supported him with 17 points and 4 assists. Even a double-double of 17 points and 13 rebounds by American forward Cleveland Melvin (203-91, college: DePaul) did not help to save the game for Wilki Morskie. His fellow American import power forward Ben McCauley (206-86, college: NC State) added 17 points and 7 rebounds. Four Wilki Morskie players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Slask have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to seventh place, which they share with King. Slask will play against higher ranked Asseco Arka (#5) in Gdynia in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Wilki Morskie will play on the road against Start in Lublin and hopes to get back on the winning track.
