Regular Season Round 16: Al Rayyan - Al Shamal 97-61

Fourth defeat of league's leader Al Shamal (12-4) against fifth ranked Al Rayyan (9-6) 97-61 was the most important game of the last round. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of Al Shamal. Al Rayyan dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Al Shamal's 32. They outrebounded Al Shamal 44-33 including 34 on the defensive glass. Al Rayyan looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of American forward Tony Farmer (201-94, college: Lee JC) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 29 points and 15 rebounds. The other American import guard Eric Lockett (196, college: NC State) contributed with a double-double by scoring 23 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. Lockett is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. American guard Aaron Mitchell (188-89, college: Longwood) replied with 17 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists and Georgian Mikhail Berishvili (204-87) added 14 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Al Shamal. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Al Rayyan maintains fifth position with 9-6 record. Defending champion Al Shamal dropped to the second place with four games lost. They were replaced at the leadership position by Al Arabi. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
