There was no surprise when 6th ranked San-en NeoPhoenix (3-30) was defeated on the road by fourth ranked Niigata A. (11-22) 89-80 on Wednesday. American forward Nick Perkins (203-96, college: Buffalo) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 15 rebounds for the winners and his fellow American import power forward Xavier Gibson (210-88, college: FSU) chipped in 17 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Four Niigata A. players scored in double figures. Niigata A.'s coach Kazuhiro Shoji used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. The best for the losing side was American forward Robert Dozier (206-85, college: Memphis) with 23 points and 7 rebounds and guard Yuki Kawamura (169-1) scored 24 points and 4 steals. Niigata A. maintains fourth place with 11-22 record, which they share with Hokkaido L. San-en NeoPhoenix lost ninth consecutive game. They keep the sixth position with 30 games lost. Niigata A. will face Diamond Dolphins (#5) in Nagoya in the next round. San-en NeoPhoenix will play at home against the league's leader Tochigi B. and hope to win that game.
