No shocking result in a game in Limassol where third ranked Apollon (11-5) defeated 5th ranked Apoel (7-8) 72-59. The game was mostly controlled by Apollon. Apoel was better in third quarter 19-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Apollon forced 22 Apoel turnovers. The game was also dominated by American players. Guard Liam OReilly (188-96, college: Gardner-Webb) orchestrated the victory by scoring 11 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists and 5 steals. Center Malik Hines (208-96, college: McNeese St.) contributed with 16 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Five Apollon players scored in double figures. Center LaRon Dendy (205-88, college: MTSU) answered with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 12 rebounds and center Jalone Friday (206-96, college: N.Mexico St.) added 12 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Apoel. Apoel's coach Nicolas Papadopoulos tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Apollon maintains third place with 11-5 record having just two points less than leader Keravnos. Apoel at the other side keeps the fifth position with eight games lost. Apollon will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Apoel will play at home against E.N. Paralimni (#4) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
