Regular Season Round 17: Keflavik - Thor AK 97-89

Very expected game when 10th ranked Thor AK (5-12) was defeated on the road by second ranked Keflavik (13-4) 97-89. The hosts were already 12 points ahead at halftime and as many as 22 after three quarters before a 35-21 last quarter charge of Thor AK cut the lead to 97-89 at the end of the game. Keflavik dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Thor AK's 40. They outrebounded Thor AK 48-28 including a 33-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. Keflavik players were unselfish on offense dishing 27 assists comparing to just 12 passes made by Thor AK's players. Lithuanian center Dominykas Milka (203-92, college: St.Rose, NY) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 27 points and 12 rebounds. British forward Deane Williams (203-96, college: Augusta, agency: Interperformances) contributed with a double-double by scoring 10 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. Four Keflavik players scored in double figures. Keflavik's coach Hjalti Vilhjalmsson used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Lithuanian power forward Mantas Virbalas (202-88, agency: Agency) answered with 25 points and 8 rebounds (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line) and American guard Jamal Palmer (188-97, college: Lynn) added 29 points in the effort for Thor AK. Keflavik maintains second place with 13-4 record having just two points less than leader Stjarnan. Newly promoted Thor AK keeps the tenth position with 12 games lost. Keflavik's next round opponent will be KR (#6) in Reykjavik. Thor AK will play at home against Njardvik (#5) and hope to win that game.
