No shocking result in a game in Manila where third ranked Filipino Alab Pilipinas (8-5) defeated 6th ranked Singapore Singapore Slingers (5-6) 86-77 on Sunday. They outrebounded Singapore Slingers 54-34 including a 24-7 advantage in offensive rebounds. Alab Pilipinas looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. It was a great evening for American forward Nick King (201-95, college: MTSU) who led his team to a victory scoring 20 points and 9 rebounds. Maltese center Samuel Deguara (225-91) helped adding 8 points and 20 rebounds. Alab Pilipinas' coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American guard Marcus Elliott (191-84, college: Louisiana Tech) responded with 18 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists and the other American import guard Xavier Alexander (198-88, college: S.Nazarene) produced a double-double by scoring 11 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists. Five Singapore Slingers players scored in double figures. Alab Pilipinas have a solid series of three victories in a row. Defending Filipino champion maintains third place with 8-5 record having just three points less than leader Mono Vampire. Loser Singapore Slingers keep the sixth position with six games lost. They share it with WM Dragons. Alab Pilipinas will meet at home bottom-ranked Saigon Heat (#10) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Singapore Slingers will play against the league's second-placed Fubon Braves (#2) and hope to secure a win.
