Eleventh-ranked Valur (5-12) gave a tough game to sixth ranked Njardvik (10-7) on Monday. Njardvik managed to secure only ten-point victory 86-76. However their fans expected much easier game. The hosts were tied at the half and again at the end of regular time. But they managed to win overtime period 16-6. Njardvik made 25-of-33 free shots (75.8 percent) during the game, while Valur only scored nine points from the stripe. The best player for the winners was Croatian forward Mario Matasovic (203-93, college: Sacred Heart) who had a double-double by scoring 24 points and 21 rebounds. American point guard Chaz Williams (175-91, college: UMass, agency: Green Sports Management) chipped in 22 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists. Israeli-French point guard Naor Sharon (193-95) produced 19 points and 6 assists and Nigerian-American forward PJ Alawoya (203-88, college: McNeese St., agency: Inception Sports) added 13 points and 12 rebounds respectively for the guests. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Njardvik moved-up to fifth place, which they share with KR. Loser Valur dropped to the tenth position with 12 games lost. They share it with Thor AK. Njardvik will meet Thor AK (#10) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Valur will play against the league's leader Stjarnan and hope to secure a win.
