Second Stage Round 3: Steaua B. - Timisoara 100-82

The game between closely ranked teams ended with Steaua B.'s (7-9) home victory over Timisoara (5-11) in Bucuresti 100-82 on Monday. The game without a history. Steaua B. led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Timisoara's 24 and made 19-of-25 free shots (76.0 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Timisoara 38-26 including 31 on the defensive glass. It was an exceptional evening for Serbian point guard Strahinja Jovanovic (185-96, agency: BeoExcell) who led the winners and scored 25 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. The former international guard Radu Virna (190-97) accounted for 26 points for the winning side. American guard Troy Franklin (183-89, college: Coppin St.) came up with 20 points and 5 assists and Belgian center Amaury Gorgemans (212-92) added 13 points and 11 rebounds respectively for Timisoara in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Steaua B. will meet Cluj Napoca on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Timisoara will play against CS Dinamo Bucuresti (#5) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
