Regular Season Round 15: Slavia - Shumen 66-95

Very significant was Shumen's (#1, 11-2) victory against second-best Slavia (9-5) 95-66. It ended at the same time the seven-game winning streak of Slavia. Shumen dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Slavia's 36. Shumen forced 19 Slavia turnovers and outrebounded them 46-34 including 32 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. It was a great evening for swingman Krasimir Dimitrov (195-98) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 12 rebounds. Dimitar Yanchev (187-90) helped adding 16 points and 4 assists. Four Shumen players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was forward Kristiyan Georgiev (196-98) with 18 points and point guard Lachezar Vezirski (184-0) scored 11 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Shumen (11-2) have an impressive series of ten victories in a row. They maintain first place. Newly promoted Slavia dropped to the third position with five games lost. Shumen are looking forward to face Rilski 2 (#4) in Samokov in the next round. Slavia will play on the road against the league's second-placed Chavdar in Troyan and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
