Regular Season Round 24: Chalon - ASVEL 99-96
Date: February 11, 2020
The most exciting game of round 24 in the Jeep ELITE ProA took place in Chalon. This derby game ended with only three-point defeat on the road of second-best ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket (19-4) to fourteenth ranked Chalon/Saor (9-14) 99-96 on Tuesday evening. It was quite big embarassment for the guest team. 30 personal fouls committed by ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was American Sean Armand (196-91, college: Iona, agency: Network Sports International) who scored 23 points (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line). The other American import swingman Jaron Johnson (196-92, college: Louisiana Tech) chipped in 14 points and 7 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was the former international Livio Jean-Charles (206-93, agency: BeoBasket) who recorded 18 points and 8 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) and swingman David Lighty (198-88, college: Ohio St.) added 13 points and 6 rebounds respectively. Four Chalon/Saor and five ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket players scored in double figures. ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket's coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Chalon/Saor have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to tenth place, which they share with 3 other teams. Defending champion ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket dropped to the third position with four games lost. Chalon/Saor is looking forward to face higher ranked Cholet Basket (#6) on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket will play against the league's leader Monaco where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
