Regular Season Round 38: Hokkaido L. - Shiga L-Stars 76-77

Sixth-ranked Hokkaido L. (13-25) used its home court advantage to challenge third ranked Shiga L-Stars (20-18) in Saporro on Saturday. The visitors from Shiga managed to secure only one-point victory 77-76. However their fans expected easier game. Shiga L-Stars looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. American players dominated the game. Forward Jeff Ayres (206-87, college: ASU) saved the victory with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 14 rebounds. Craig Brackins (208-87, college: Iowa St., agency: SDJ Sports) contributed with 8 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. Four Shiga L-Stars players scored in double figures. Markeith Cummings (198-88, college: Kennesaw St.) replied with 28 points and 4 assists (was perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line !!!) and forward Kennedy Meeks (208-95, college: UNC) added 18 points and 9 rebounds in the effort for Hokkaido L.Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Shiga L-Stars have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 20-18 record having nine points less than leader Ryukyu GK. Hokkaido L. at the other side dropped to the fourth place with 25 games lost. They share the position with Niigata A.. Shiga L-Stars will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Hokkaido L. will play again at home against Shiga L-Stars (#3) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
