Regular Season Round 16: Rilski 2 - Shumen 80-105

An exciting game was played in Samokov. First ranked Shumen faced 4th ranked Rilski 2. Guests from Shumen (13-2) smashed host Rilski 2 (7-8) 105-80. Shumen forced 21 Rilski 2 turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 31 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of Dimitar Yanchev (187-90) who helped to win the game recording 26 points and swingman Krasimir Dimitrov (195-98) who added 17 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals during the contest. Four Shumen players scored in double figures. At the losing side guard Vasil Popov (192-2) responded with 28 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists and guard Martin Smilkin (190-2) scored 9 points and 8 assists. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Shumen have an impressive 12-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 13-2 record. Loser Rilski 2 keeps the fourth place with eight games lost. Shumen will meet at home CSKA (#5) in the next round. Rilski 2 will play against Slavia in Sofia and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
