Regular Season Round 20: Battipaglia - Venezia 54-72

Date: February 21, 2020
There was no surprise when 14th ranked Battipaglia (2-18) was defeated at home by second ranked Venezia (17-3) 72-54 on Friday. Venezia made 23-of-28 free shots (82.1 percent) during the game. 24 personal fouls committed by Battipaglia helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was Lithuanian power forward Gintare Petronyte (197-89) who scored 12 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 blocks (was perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line !!!). American guard Jolene Anderson (173-86, college: Wisconsin) chipped in 11 points and 8 rebounds. American power forward Tori Jarosz (189-92, college: Marist) produced a double-double by scoring 15 points and 13 rebounds and Australian swingman Alex Ciabattoni (183-94) added 11 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists respectively for the hosts. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Venezia have an impressive nine-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 17-3 record having just one point less than leader Schio. Battipaglia lost seventh consecutive game. They stay dead last with 18 lost games. Venezia are looking forward to face league's leader Schio at home in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Battipaglia will play against Ragusa (#3) and is hoping to prove to their fans that they can break losing series.
