Regular Season Round 29: Niko-Basket - Mariupol 98-49

Not a big story in a game in Mykolaiv where 6th ranked Mariupol (8-15) was outplayed by second ranked Niko-Basket (18-5) 98-49 on Saturday. The game without a history. Niko-Basket led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Mariupol to just 7 points in second quarter. They outrebounded Mariupol 52-38 including a 43-27 advantage in defensive rebounds. Niko-Basket looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by Mariupol's players. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Niko-Basket made 7 blocks. The best player for the winners was guard Bogdan Lukian (183-99) who scored 22 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Point guard Mark Bodnar (185-98) chipped in a double-double by scoring 10 points, 8 rebounds and 10 assists. Five Niko-Basket players scored in double figures. Swingman Vitaliy Bella (193-98) produced 13 points and 7 rebounds and swingman Dmytro Flashner (193-0) added 8 points and 8 rebounds respectively for the guests. Niko-Basket have an impressive series of fourteen victories in a row. They maintain second place with 18-5 record having 4 victories less than leader KDPU. Mariupol lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the sixth position with 15 games lost. Niko-Basket will face league's leader KDPU in Kryvyi Rih in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Mariupol will play on the road against DYUSH-DOR (#7) in Dnipro and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
