Regular Season Round 19: Keflavik - Haukar 80-69

Date: March 1, 2020
No shocking result in a game when second ranked Keflavik (14-5) beat at home 6th ranked Haukar (11-8) 80-69. The game was mostly controlled by Keflavik. Haukar was better in second period 16-12. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Keflavik won last quarter 28-19. They also forced 20 Haukar turnovers. 26 personal fouls committed by Haukar helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. British forward Deane Williams (203-96, college: Augusta, agency: Interperformances) fired a double-double by scoring 22 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. The former international guard Hordur Vilhjalmsson (194-88) chipped in 12 points and 8 assists. Five Keflavik players scored in double figures. Keflavik's coach Hjalti Vilhjalmsson allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. American forward Flenard Whitfield (201-90, college: W.Michigan) produced 26 points and 7 rebounds and the former international guard Kari Jonsson (190-97, college: Drexel) added 15 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists respectively for lost side. Keflavik maintains second place with 14-5 record having just two points less than leader Stjarnan. Haukar at the other side dropped to the fifth position with eight games lost. Keflavik's next round opponent will be bottom-ranked Fjolnir (#12) in Reykjavik and are hoping to win another game. Haukar will play at home against Njardvik (#5) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
