Second Stage Round 3: Algeciras - Menorca 86-84

There was a minor upset when Menorca (15-10) was edged on the road by Algeciras (13-12) 86-84 on Sunday. Algeciras made 17-of-20 free shots (85.0 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. It was a good game for naturalized Gibraltar point guard Miguel Ortega (188-91) who led his team to a victory with 24 points and 4 assists. Senegalese center Serigne Barro (208-95) contributed with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. Power forward Urko Otegui (203-81) answered with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 10 rebounds and American center Duby Okeke (203-94, college: Nebraska) added 13 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Menorca. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Algeciras will face Girona Basquet on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Menorca will play against Zamorano and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
