Second Stage Round 5: Hagen - Dresden T. 76-52

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Hagen. Second ranked Phoenix Juniors faced their close opponent Dresden T.. Host Phoenix Juniors (9-4) smashed guests from Dresden (7-6) 76-52. Phoenix Juniors dominated down low during the game scoring 42 of its points in the paint compared to Dresden T.'s 22 and made 19-of-25 charity shots (76.0 percent) during the game. Phoenix Juniors forced 37 Dresden T. turnovers. Strangely Dresden T. outrebounded Phoenix Juniors 44-32 including a 33-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. Point guard Gabriel Jung (185-1) nailed 26 points and 5 rebounds (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line) for the winning side and Aldin Ribic (185-3) accounted for 12 points. Point guard Paul Gruenheid (185-3) came up with 14 points and Maximilian Koerner (199-2) added 8 points and 7 rebounds respectively for Dresden T. in the defeat. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The victory was the eighth consecutive win for Phoenix Juniors. They maintain second place with 9-4 record having just two points less than leader Sudhessen, which they share with 3 other teams. Dresden T. lost their fourth game in a row. They keep the second position with six games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
