Regular Season Round 8: Logan T. - SC Phoenix 84-28

Date: September 5, 2020
Rather predictable result when top-ranked Thunder (4-0) rolled over 7th ranked Sunshine CP (2-3) in Loganholme 84-28 on Saturday. Thunder held Sunshine CP to an opponent 18.0 percent shooting from the field compared to 39.1 percent accuracy of the winners. Thunder forced 28 Sunshine CP turnovers and outrebounded them 56-36 including a 17-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists comparing to just 10 passes made by Sunshine CP's players. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Thunder made 7 blocks. Forward Mikaela Ruef (190-90, college: Stanford) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 14 rebounds. Mikhaela Cann contributed with 6 points, 8 rebounds and 12 assists for the winners. Canadian guard Natalie Saunders (178-91) replied with 2 points and 11 rebounds and swingman Amy Browne (178-90) added 6 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Sunshine CP. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Thunder maintains third position in League with 4-0 record having 2 victories less than leader Norths Bears. Loser Sunshine CP dropped to the ninth place with three games lost. Thunder will face league's leader Capitals in Brisbane in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Sunshine CP will play on the road against Rip City (#6) in Sippy Downs and hope to win that game.
