Regular Season Round 5: Haneda Vickies - Hitachi Cougars 68-87

Bottom-ranked Haneda Vickies (0-6) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 87-68 loss to leader Hitachi Cougars (6-0) in Tokyo on Saturday evening. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. Hitachi Cougars dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Haneda Vickies' 32. Hitachi Cougars looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. The best player for the winners was the former international power forward Chika Suzuki (183-93) who had a double-double by scoring 15 points, 14 rebounds and 4 assists. The former international center Rika Tanimura (185-93) chipped in a double-double by scoring 20 points and 11 rebounds. Four Hitachi Cougars players scored in double figures. International guard Nanoko Motohashi (164-93) produced 17 points and guard Hikaru Jikumaru (167-97) added 13 points and 6 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. The victory was the sixth consecutive win for Hitachi Cougars. They keep a position of East leader, which they share with Eneos S. Haneda Vickies lost their sixth game in a row. They still close the standings with six games lost. Hitachi Cougars will face league's leader Eneos S. in Kashiwa in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Haneda Vickies will play on the road against Fujitsu RW (#3) in Kawasaki and look forward to get finally their first victory.
