Regular Season Round 8: Shinshu BW - Kawasaki BT 72-66

The biggest surprise took place in Nagano where host Shinshu BW (2-6) beat league's leader Toshiba Thunders (6-2) 72-66 on Saturday evening. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of Toshiba Thunders. Shinshu BW looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The best player for the winners was American forward Josh Hawkinson (208-95, college: WSU, agency: Wasserman) who scored 28 points and 8 rebounds. The other American import Anthony McHenry (202-83, college: Georgia Tech) chipped in 13 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists. International power forward Nick Fazekas (211-85, college: Nevada) produced a double-double by scoring 26 points, 15 rebounds and 4 assists and the former international swingman Naoto Tsuji (185-89) added 9 points and 7 assists respectively for the guests. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Shinshu BW moved-up to seventh place, which they share with 3 other teams. Defending champion Toshiba Thunders still keep top position with two games lost. They were joined at the leadership position by Tochigi B. who have the same record. Toshiba Thunders will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest and make it back to the top of the standings. Shinshu BW will try to continue on its current victory against fifth ranked Toshiba Thunders in Kanagawa.
