Regular Season Round 7: Gipuzkoa - Fuenlabrada 72-100

Baloncesto Fuenlabrada can celebrate finally their first win this season after five consecutive losses. The victory is especially important as it came on the road game in San Sebastian, where they outplayed Gipuzkoa (1-5) 100-72 on Saturday. Baloncesto Fuenlabrada dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Gipuzkoa's 36. They outrebounded Gipuzkoa 37-23 including a 27-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. Baloncesto Fuenlabrada looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. It was a great evening for American guard Melo Trimble (190-95, college: Maryland) who led his team to a victory scoring 20 points and 8 assists. Brazilian Leonardo Meindl (201-93) helped adding 16 points and 8 rebounds. At the losing side DR Congolese center Viny Okouo (215-97) responded with 14 points and Montenegrin Dino Radoncic (202-99) scored 11 points and 5 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Baloncesto Fuenlabrada left bottom position moving up to sixteenth place, which they share with Real Betis and Gipuzkoa. It was Gipuzkoa's third loss in a row. Baloncesto Fuenlabrada will meet at home higher ranked Joventut (#4) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Gipuzkoa will play against Movil Estudiantes (#12) in Madrid and hope to win that game.
