Regular Season Round 6: Meralco Bolts - SM Beermen 82-89

The most shocking disappointment of round 6 in the PBA was a home defeat of 6th ranked Meralco Bolts (3-3) to seventh ranked SM Beermen (4-2) 89-82. It ended the two-game winning streak of Meralco Bolts. Strangely Meralco Bolts outrebounded SM Beermen 49-36 including a 18-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. Forward Arwind Santos (193-81) had a double-double by scoring 17 points and 11 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and naturalized Tongan center Moala Tautuaa (200-89, college: Chadron St.) chipped in 23 points and 5 rebounds during the contest. Five SM Beermen players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was guard Chris Newsome (187-90, college: NMHU) with 14 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists and forward Reynel Hugnatan (193-78) scored 15 points. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. SM Beermen have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to third place, which they share with Ginebra Kings and Phoenix. Meralco Bolts at the other side dropped to the seventh position with three games lost. SM Beermen's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Manila Ginebra Kings.
