Regular Season Round 9: Gunma - Fukushima 94-74

Very important is a road loss of third ranked Fukushima (6-3) against fourth ranked Gunma (7-2) on Wednesday night. Visiting Fukushima was crushed by Gunma in Gunma 94-74. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Gunma dominated down low during the game scoring 70 of its points in the paint compared to Fukushima's 40. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. The best player for the winners was American guard Trey McKinney-Jones (198-90, college: Miami, FL) who scored 21 points, 6 rebounds and 9 assists. His fellow American import power forward Justin Keenan (202-89, college: Ferris St.) chipped in 25 points and 6 rebounds. Four Gunma players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was South African center Tshilidzi Nephawe (208-89, college: NM State) who recorded a double-double by scoring 18 points and 12 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) and guard Yuji Kanbara (183-89) added 14 points and 4 assists respectively. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Gunma have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with 4 other teams. Fukushima at the other side dropped to the second place with three games lost. They share the position with Fukuoka R. and Kumamoto V.. Gunma will meet Nishinomiya S. (#5) in the next round.
