Regular Season Round 5: Monaco - Lokomotiv 72-88

The biggest surprise of round 5 in Eurocup was Russian guest Lokomotiv's (4-1) easy road victory over second-ranked French Monaco (3-2) 88-72 on Wednesday evening. It was a key game for the second position in Group C. The game without a history. Lokomotiv led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They made 16-of-21 free shots (76.2 percent) during the game. Lokomotiv outrebounded Monaco 40-25 including a 28-14 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was American center Alan Williams (201-93, college: UCSB, agency: Wasserman) who had a double-double by scoring 13 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists. His fellow American import forward Kevin Hervey (206-96, college: UT Arlington) chipped in 17 points and 8 rebounds. Five Lokomotiv players scored in double figures. Lokomotiv's coach used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American guard Marcos Knight (188-89, college: MTSU, agency: BeoBasket) produced 17 points and 5 assists and center Mathias Lessort (205-95, agency: BeoBasket) added 16 points and 5 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Lokomotiv have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to second place in Group C. Defending French champion Monaco dropped to the third position with two games lost. Lokomotiv are looking forward to face bottom-ranked Antwerp Giants (#6) on the road in the next round. Monaco will play against Andorra and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
