Regular Season Round 7: Phoenix - Alaska Aces 97-105

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Quezon where 5th ranked Phoenix (4-3) was defeated by sixth ranked Alaska Aces (5-3) 105-97 on Thursday. It was a key game for the second position in the league. Alaska Aces dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Phoenix's 38. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Forward Vic Manuel (193-87) fired 24 points and 7 rebounds (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field) for the winners. Naturalized American guard Michael Digregorio (185-90, college: McKendree) chipped in 21 points. Naturalized Canadian guard Matthew Wright (193-91, college: St.Bonaventure) produced 27 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists and naturalized American forward Calvin Abueva (190-88) added 18 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists respectively for lost side. Four Phoenix players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Alaska Aces moved-up to second place. Phoenix at the other side dropped to the sixth position with three games lost. Alaska Aces will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Phoenix will play at home against Blackwater Elite (#8) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
