Apoel can celebrate their first win this season after three consecutive losses. They used home court advantage to defeat Omonia (2-3) 98-67 on Saturday. Apoel shot the lights out from three sinking 17 long-distance shots on high 56.7 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. American forward Marcus Gilbert (198-93, college: Fairfield) stepped up and scored 30 points and 5 rebounds for the winners and his fellow American import forward Landen Lucas (208-93, college: Kansas) chipped in 16 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists. Four Apoel players scored in double figures. American Karl Gamble (206-96, college: MTSU) responded with 23 points and international forward Georgios Tretiakov (195-0) scored 9 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Apoel (1-3) left bottom position moving up to seventh place, which they share with APOP. Loser Omonia dropped to the fifth position with three games lost. They share it with Etha. Apoel will meet higher ranked Etha (#5) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Omonia will have a break next round.
