Regular Season Round 4: MU Varna - Shumen 82-80

A very interesting game took place in Varna. It ended with only two-point defeat on the road of bottom-ranked Shumen (0-2) to sixth ranked MU Varna (1-2) 82-80 on Sunday evening. MU Varna forced 21 Shumen turnovers. Strangely Shumen outrebounded MU Varna 52-39 including a 39-24 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a very good performance for German guard Mathias Hatzenbuller (188-93) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 21 points and 11 rebounds. Swingman Milen Cholakov (195-0) contributed with 8 points, 15 rebounds and 7 assists for the winners. Power forward Kiril Kirilov (205-94) replied with a double-double by scoring 15 points, 16 rebounds and 4 assists and forward Joan Yorgov (196-99) added 17 points and 12 rebounds in the effort for Shumen. Four Shumen players scored in double figures. MU Varna left bottom position moving up to third place, which they share with 3 other teams. Shumen at the other side, also newcomer in the league, still closes the standings with two games lost. MU Varna's next round opponent will be Unstoppable (#8) in Dobrich where they are favorite. Shumen will play on the road against Svetkavitsa in Targovishte and looks forward to get finally their first victory.
