Regular Season Round 9: NLEX RW - SM Beermen 124-90

There was an upset in Makati City where 4th placed SM Beermen (5-4) was rolled over by ninth ranked NLEX RW (4-5) 124-90 on Friday. NLEX RW dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to SM Beermen's 38 and made 19-of-20 free shots (95.0 percent) during the game. They outrebounded SM Beermen 59-28 including a 39-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. NLEX RW looked well-organized offensively handing out 31 assists comparing to just 18 passes made by SM Beermen's players. Point guard Kevin Alas (183-91) stepped up and scored 19 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners and guard Kiefer-Isaac Ravena (181-93) chipped in 14 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists. Five NLEX RW players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was point guard Paul Zamar (180-87) with 23 points and forward Von-Rolfe Pessumal (187-93) scored 11 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. NLEX RW have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain ninth place with 4-5 record. Loser SM Beermen dropped to the sixth position with four games lost. NLEX RW will face again higher ranked SM Beermen (#6) in Manila in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
