Regular Season Round 8: Mazeikiai - Vilkaviskis 97-104

Vilkaviskis can celebrate finally their first win this season after three consecutive losses. The victory is especially important as it came on the road game in Mazeikiai, where they defeated Mazeikiai (0-5) 104-97 on Saturday. Vilkaviskis looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. 24 personal fouls committed by Mazeikiai helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was the former international Martynas Linkevicius (196-85) who had a double-double by scoring 15 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists. Guard Edgaras Stanionis (195-88) chipped in 24 points. Vilkaviskis' coach Kestutis Juozaitis used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Point guard Andrius Gaidys (180-94) produced a double-double by scoring 21 points and 11 assists and Daniel Baslyk (197-1, agency: Octagon Europe) added 21 points and 6 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Five Vilkaviskis and four Mazeikiai players scored in double figures. Vilkaviskis (1-3) left bottom position moving up to eleventh place. It was Mazeikiai's fifth loss in a row. They still close the standings with five games lost. They share the position with Silales Lusis. Vilkaviskis are looking forward to face higher ranked Telsiai (#4) in Telsiu in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Mazeikiai will have a break next round.
