Barreirense's fans can finally celebrate the first win of their team after four consecutive losses. The victory is especially important as it came on the road game in Esgueira, where they edged Esgueira (0-5) 82-80 on Saturday. American forward Kurt James (196-95, college: Valdosta St.) notched a double-double by scoring 23 points and 13 rebounds to lead the effort and the other American import guard Richaud Gittens (193-95, college: Seattle) supported him with 15 points and 5 assists. Even a double-double of 13 points, 13 rebounds and 7 assists by American guard Kareem Brewton-Jr (190, college: Memphis) did not help to save the game for Esgueira. American-Ivorian forward Mike Fofana (206-97, college: HSU, agency: One Motive Sports) added 16 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Barreirense (1-4) left bottom position moving up to eleventh place, which they share with Academica. It was Esgueira's fifth loss in a row. They still close the standings with five games lost. Barreirense will meet at home league's second-placed FC Porto in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Esgueira will play against Vitoria SC (#10) in Guimaraes and hopes to get finally their first victory.
