Another interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Nicosia: Apoel (#7) and Etha (#5). Etha was defeated at home 71-82 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. The game was mostly controlled by Apoel. Etha managed to win third quarter 24-22. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. American forward Landen Lucas (208-93, college: Kansas) notched a double-double by scoring 18 points and 14 rebounds to lead the effort and the former international guard Vassilis Kounas (194-84) supported him with 18 points and 5 rebounds. Four Apoel players scored in double figures. Even 19 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists by American guard Chris McNeal (185-97, college: Cincinnati) did not help to save the game for Etha. His fellow American import swingman Trevor Manuel (208-96, college: Olivet) added 18 points and 14 rebounds. Apoel (2-3) moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Omonia. Loser Etha dropped to the seventh position with four games lost. Apoel will meet at home APOP (#8) in the next round. Etha's supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Nicosia to the arena Omonia.
