Regular Season Round 7: Academica - Sporting 58-91
Date: November 11, 2020
Everything went according to plan in Coimbra where leader Sporting (6-0) outscored 11th ranked Academica (2-5) 91-58 on Wednesday. Sporting forced 23 Academica turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. It was a great evening for American power forward John Fields (205-88, college: Tennessee) who led his team to a victory scoring 21 points and 9 rebounds (on 10-of-11 shooting from the field). His fellow American import forward James Ellisor (195-90, college: Bemidji St.) helped adding 16 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. Four Sporting players scored in double figures. At the losing side American forward Josh McNair (200, college: Green Bay) responded with 14 points and 6 rebounds and Mali center Bakary Konate (211-93, college: Minnesota) scored 9 points and 9 rebounds. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. The victory was the sixth consecutive win for Sporting. Defending champion keeps a position of league leader, which they share with FC Porto. Newly promoted Academica dropped to the tenth place with five games lost. Sporting will face league's leader FC Porto at home in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Academica will play against Maia Basket (#11) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
