Regular Season Round 14: Osaka E. - Shimane SM 80-73

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when one of their biggest challengers Shimane Magic (7-7) was defeated on the road by fifth ranked Osaka E. (6-8) 80-73 on Saturday. Osaka E. looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Osaka E. made 7 blocks. The best player for the winners was American guard DJ Newbill (193-92, college: Penn St.) who scored 26 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists (on 10-of-11 shooting from the field). The former international Takuya Hashimoto (186-94) chipped in 19 points. Four Osaka E. players scored in double figures. American forward Reid Travis (203-95, college: Kentucky, agency: Pensack Sports) produced 30 points and 6 rebounds and his fellow American import DeMon Brooks (202-92, college: Davidson) added 14 points and 8 rebounds respectively for the guests. Shimane Magic's coach let to play ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Osaka E. maintains fifth position with 6-8 record. Loser Shimane Magic keeps the fourth place with seven games lost. Osaka E. will face again higher ranked Shimane Magic (#4) at home in the next round and it may be quite challenging game.
