Regular Season Round 6: La Matanza - Alcala 81-94

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Las Palmas where 4th ranked La Matanza (1-2) was defeated by fifth ranked Alcala (1-1) 94-81 on Saturday. La Matanza was plagued by 27 personal fouls down the stretch. Forward Sergio Rodriguez (194-84) had a double-double by scoring 18 points and 18 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and forward Carlos Unanue (193-0) chipped in 27 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. The best for the losing side was Venezuelan forward Franger Pirela (187-2) with 8 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists and Senegalese swingman Issa Thiam (208-96, college: Rutgers) scored 11 points and 9 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Alcala left bottom position moving up to third place in Group B-B, which they share with 3 other teams. Newly promoted La Matanza dropped to the seventh position with two games lost. Alcala will face Tobarra (#8) at home in the next round where they are favorite.
