There was a surprise result when fifth ranked Alginet (3-1) won against at home top-ranked Benidorm (4-1) 66-55 on Sunday. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in Group E-B. Forward Larry Abia (195-93) scored 20 points and 7 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and point guard Miguel Martinez (183-95) chipped in 18 points and 5 assists during the contest. The best for the losing side was Argentinian-Italian Pedro Rubbera (191-81) with 16 points and naturalized Uruguayan forward Santiago Ramirez (198-93) scored 10 points and 8 rebounds. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Alginet have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place in Group E-B, which they share with UAF Lucentum. Loser Benidorm still keeps top position with one game lost. Alginet will face Calpe (#5) on the road in the next round.
