Very expected game in Tianjin where 18th ranked Pioneers (2-12) were defeated by sixth ranked Eagles (9-5) 113-105 on Friday. Eagles made 34-of-37 free shots (91.9 percent) during the game. They also forced 19 Pioneers turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Eagles made 9 blocks. Pioneers were plagued by 30 personal fouls down the stretch. Bulgarian-American point guard Darius Adams (188-89, college: Indianapolis) had a double-double by scoring 39 points (!!!), 5 rebounds and 11 assists (was perfect 17-for-17 from the free throw line !!!) to lead the charge for the winners and center Chuanxing Liu (222-97) chipped in 18 points, 15 rebounds and 5 blocks during the contest. Bosnian-Serbian Dejan Todorovic (196-94) responded with a double-double by scoring 36 points (!!!), 12 rebounds, 5 assists and 7 steals and Taiwanese guard Tingqian Lin (194-99, college: Bryant) scored 28 points and 6 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Eagles moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Shandong H. and Xinjiang FT. Loser Pioneers dropped to the seventeenth position with 12 games lost. Eagles will face Flying Tigers (#6) in Urumqi in the next round. Pioneers will play on the road against Royal Fighters (#9) in Beijing and hope to win that game.
