Regular Season Round 1: Al Rayyan - Al Ahli 94-99

An interesting game was played in Doha where Al Ahli beat host Al Rayyan 99-94 on Sunday evening. Strangely Al Rayyan outrebounded Al Ahli 50-38 including 19 on the offensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. American point guard Jonathan Lee (188-90, college: Northeastern) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 39 points (!!!), 7 rebounds, 10 assists and 4 steals for the winners and his fellow American import guard Rohndell Goodwin (195-91, college: Chaminade) chipped in 25 points, 11 rebounds and 7 assists. At the losing side Nigerian-American power forward Gani Lawal (206-88, college: Georgia Tech) responded with a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!), 18 rebounds and 4 blocks and American Tavarion Nix (201-92, college: Midwestern St.) produced a double-double by scoring 29 points and 15 rebounds. Al Ahli's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Doha Al Arabi.
