Regular Season Round 9: Benfica - Esgueira 78-73

Bottom-ranked Esgueira is still unable to win any game. This time they lost on the road their ninth consecutive match to third ranked Benfica (7-1) 78-73 on Wednesday evening. The former international Betinho Gomes (202-85) nailed 15 points and 8 rebounds for the winning side and American center Eric Coleman (200-85, college: N.Iowa) accounted for 11 points and 7 rebounds. Benfica's coach Carlos Lisboa used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. American forward Aaron Bowen (198-91, college: Georgetown) came up with 20 points and the other American import forward Benjamin Drake (203, college: Presbyterian) added 8 points and 12 rebounds respectively for Esgueira in the defeat. The victory was the third consecutive win for Benfica. They maintain third place with 7-1 record having just one point less than leader FC Porto. Esgueira lost their ninth game in a row. They still close the standings with nine games lost. Benfica will meet league's second-placed Sporting in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Esgueira will play against Ovarense (#9) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
