Regular Season Round 9: Barreirense - Galitos-Barreiro 72-85

Galitos-Barreiro's fans can finally celebrate the first win of their team after six consecutive losses. The victory is especially important as it came on the road game in Barreiro, where they defeated Barreirense (1-8) 85-72. Galitos-Barreiro dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Barreirense's 34. They outrebounded Barreirense 39-26 including 26 on the defensive glass. American guard Derreck Brooks-Jr (198-94, college: Cent Arkansas) stepped up and scored 21 points and 9 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) for the winners and Kenyan-American forward Alonzo Nelson-Ododa (206-93, college: Pittsburgh) chipped in 16 points and 10 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). The best for the losing side was American swingman Ian-Edward Kinard (203-97, college: SC State, agency: Green Sports Management) with a double-double by scoring 28 points and 12 rebounds and the other American import forward Kurt James (196-95, college: Valdosta St.) scored 17 points and 4 assists. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Galitos-Barreiro (1-6) left bottom position moving up to eleventh place. It was Barreirense's fourth loss in a row. They dropped to the thirteenth position with eight games lost. Galitos-Barreiro will play against league's leader FC Porto at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Barreirense will play against Maia Basket (#12) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
