Regular Season Round 7: Iraklis - AEK 72-79

An interesting game for AEK (6-0) which played road game in Thessaloniki against 4th placed Iraklis (4-3). Leader AEK managed to get a 7-point victory 79-72. It looked good early as Iraklis took a 3-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then AEK had a 26-17 second period charge getting the lead and Iraklis was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 72-79. AEK made 20-of-25 charity shots (80.0 percent) during the game. They also forced 19 Iraklis turnovers. Iraklis was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a great evening for Lithuanian forward Jonas Maciulis (198-85) who led his team to a victory scoring 18 points. American Keith Langford (193-83, college: Kansas) helped adding 16 points. At the losing side the former international center Vasilis Kavvadas (205-91) responded with 21 points and 7 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) and American guard Skyler Bowlin (190-89, college: MSSU) scored 14 points and 5 assists. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. The victory was the sixth consecutive win for AEK. They maintain first place with 6-0 record. Iraklis at the other side dropped to the third position with three games lost. They share it with Peristeri GS. AEK will play against Aris (#8) in Thessaloniki in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Iraklis will play at home against Lavrio (#5) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
