Regular Season Round 7: Ferrara - RO SAzzurra 83-81
Date: December 13, 2020
Not a big story in a game when bottom-ranked SAzzurra RO (0-4) was edged on the road by sixth ranked Ferrara (2-1) 83-81 on Sunday. However just two-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Ferrara made 17-of-22 free shots (77.3 percent) during the game. SAzzurra RO was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. Croatian forward Hrvoje Peric (203-85) fired 23 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners (made all of his seven free throws). The former international power forward Tommaso Fantoni (206-85, agency: Players Group) chipped in 19 points and 5 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Puerto Rican-American guard Stephen Thompson-Jr (194-97, college: Oregon St.) produced 33 points (!!!) and Croatian forward Leo Menalo (208-2, agency: BeoBasket) added 14 points and 11 rebounds respectively for lost side. SAzzurra RO's coach Germano D'Arcangeli tried various players' combinations and tested in total twelve players in this game, but that didn't help. Ferrara moved-up to fourth place in A2. Newly promoted SAzzurra RO still closes the standings with four games lost. Ferrara will face league's second-placed Napoli at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. SAzzurra RO's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Roma to the arena Eurobasket RO.
