Rather predictable result in San Sebastian where fourteenth ranked Gran Canaria (5-10) defeated 18th ranked Gipuzkoa (2-12) 79-65 on Saturday. The best player for the winners was Polish-American AJ Slaughter (191-87, college: WKU, agency: BeoBasket) who scored 12 points and 8 assists. Serbian power forward Oliver Stevic (204-84, agency: BeoBasket) chipped in 12 points. Gran Canaria's coach Porfirio Fisac used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. At the other side the best for losing team was Montenegrin Dino Radoncic (202-99) who recorded 13 points and 8 rebounds and Colombian center Jaime Echenique (211-97, college: Wichita St.) added 14 points respectively. Gran Canaria have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to thirteenth place, which they share with Estudiantes and Fuenlabrada. Newly promoted Gipuzkoa keeps the eighteenth position with 12 games lost. They share it with Real Betis. Gran Canaria will meet higher ranked La ICL Manresa (#10) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Gipuzkoa will play against Valencia Basket (#8) and hope to secure a win.
